“Lamazi Monasteri” (Beautiful Monastery)
Built in 1189-1209 the monastery site, presently known under the
name of “Lamazi Monasteri” is situated in the gorge of the Ktsia
River, at the distance of seven kilometers from the Monastery.
Currently southern wall of the principal temple of the monastery
ensemble is completely ruined. The temple is richly decorated with
ornamented stones very typical for the developed Middle Ages. There
is a remained fresco of the Blessed Virgin on the ground in the
southern part of the monastery as well as architrave stone with an
inscription in antique Georgian (asomtavruli). The Monastery
ensemble is unique not only due to the magnitude and stylistic point
of view of its temple, but also makes more impression in view of the
fact that it is surrounded by other extremely interesting buildings
making up the monastery ensemble.
“Revazasheni”
At the distance of seven kilometres from the Monastery, at the edge
of Gomareti plateau dominates a XIII-IX centuries tri-arched
basilica “Revazasheni”. Its name comes from the village of the same
name, which was built near the church in the Middle Ages, although
judging by the antiquity of the church, it’s possible that the
Monastery ensemble existed here. Restoration/reconstruction works in
the church were carried out in 2007. Foundation of the nunnery is
planned here in future. There are dozens of VI-XVII centuries
churches and monasteries situated at the adjacent to the Monastery
territory, in the Ktsia gorge and Gomareti plateau.
